I'm a former elementary teacher and now a sub-teacher and I'm horrified seeing what the kids eat. Upon walking into school, they are often handed a prewrapped PBJ with added sugar, a package of fruit snacks with added sugar, and a fruit drink with added sugar. Most of those items also are loaded with preservatives and artificial food coloring. Then teachers wonder why the kids are crashing and unable to pay attention to the boring scripted lessons! Kids are then labeled as having a learning disability. One school I was at played videos to pacify the students during lunch because there were so many conflicts, I was told. The kids looked at the screen, forgetting to eat their shitty food, and then it was time to go. Sometimes, I think we are doomed.
