I think divorce will always have a voice, but time and self-awareness can help keep it from being the loudest voice in the room. I’m no longer stuck or drowning in anger, but it still comes up. It’s especially hard for those of us with kids and having to deal with our Ex’s, and seeing the same patterns/behaviors that affected the outcome of marriage now affect the kids. I’m working on a piece about how I used CBT to help me manage my anger and resentment during the height of my divorce. When I was dating I told the woman we can talk about our Ex’s but we can’t bash. That was my rule. It’s gonna come up. It’s part of us.
