Small space brings you closer by default. With small kids and especially after divorce I can’t recommend it enough.

When I was a remodel contractor it gave me a peek into how people live. During one kitchen remodel at a huge 4000+ sq/ft house the family would leave the door open and I’d walk in and get to work. It always seemed like no one was home, but the two kids and Mom and Dad were home in their offices and rooms all separated and not interacting at all. They’d show up briefly in the kitchen grab some food and disappear.
