After a good hour of swearing and only seeing a texted link, I figured it out. For me if I only pasted the share-link the text would only show, not the Soundcloud Window.

If you go into the + menu then click on <>icon and then paste the share-link and hit return. This enabled the Soundcloud Preview with a thumbnail. Then your readers can listen without navigating out of Medium.
